Rise And Fall of Society

Frank Chodorov (1887–1966), one of the great libertarians of the Old Right, was the founder of the Intercollegiate Society of Individualists and author of many influential books regarding the nature of civilization and the social / economic evils of coercive, unaccountable political power.

When Chodorov's arguments are deconstructed, we are left with this:

From a state of no all pervasive coercive authority (anarchy equals no state coercion), the civilized peacefully cooperate for MUTUAL self-interest (common interest) which includes predator control and build the social / economic structures of civilization.

These social / economic structures are infiltrated / subverted by predators and transformed into coercive power structures (tyranny), as opposed to public service (employees) institutions. Predatory tyrants then proceed to coerce and exploit once free people, creating blowback conflict which destroys civilization and the social / economic environment required for survival and to pay for the coercion. Civilization collapses because the basis of operation has been destroyed.

Free / intelligent individuals step into the power vacuum and start rebuilding using division of labor. They achieve peaceful prosperity and live "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness", for those who chose to contribute (the productive). The people become secure, happy, contented, focus on their own interests and lose vigilance.

Criminals and predators pounce and again subvert / infiltrate social / economic institutions, collapsing civilization yet again. This is the brutal historical cycle of rise and fall of civilizations.

Summary:

Civilizations rise when peaceful division of labor for MUTUAL self-interest is possible. Civilizations fall when peaceful division of labor for MUTUAL self-interest is NOT possible, because selfish and greedy predators are in control. Their unchecked greed collapses civilization, destroying their host and then themselves since they are parasites.
